Feedback Master: Customized buttons do not show hover state on feedback layers

Hi everyone!

I'm making customized feedback layers for a customer. What I did is I took the existing feedback master and deleted everything I didn't need. I recycled the button-placeholder and tried to customize it as well, but that doesn't work properly.

First I wanted to change the form of the button to a hexagon (because that's the screendesign). But it's not possible to change the form of the button. So I just set the color to 100% transparent and put the hexagon in the state of the button. Here is my first problem: The hexagon doesn't appear on the feedback layer. It's just not in the state of the button - even though in the feedback master it's present.

I didn't give up and tried to put the hexagon behind the button instead. But now I don't manage to make the hovereffect of the button work. It's a pretty simple hover state, the color of the hexagon should just turn a darker shade.

What I tried is:

1. Put the hexagon in the normal- and hoverstate of the button-placeholder (BP)
> The hexagon won't show at all

2. Put the hexagon behind the BP and only put the dark-shaded hexagon in the hoverstate of the BP
> the hover doesn't appear

3. Make a hexagon with hover state and put it behind the BP. Group the two elements (as usually the hover of all grouped elements show when the mouse is moved over one of them)
> the hover doesn't appear

4. Make a hexagon with hover state and put it behind the BP. Set a trigger that changes the hexagon to hover state when the mouse is moved over BP
> the hover doesn't appear

5. Make a hexagon with hover state and put it behind the BP. Set a trigger that changes the hexagon to self-named state when the mouse is moved over BP
> the hover doesn't appear

6. Make a self-named state of the BP and put the hoverstate of the hexagon inside this self-named state. Set a trigger that changes the BP to the self-named state when the mouse ist moved over it.
> the hover doesn't appear

7. Give up on trying to make the hexagon change its color and instead focus on the text color. I tried to give the hoverstate of the BP another text color than the normal state but it always changes the colors of both states - no matter which one I try to change.

Has anyone experience with the button-placeholders on the feedback master? Is there a fix or a workaround?

  • Hi Samira!

Sorry to hear you've run into this setback working with the Feedback Master in Storyline!

The behavior you shared sounds similar to a Storyline bug we are currently tracking. Do you mind sharing a copy of the .story file that's giving you trouble? We'd be happy to take a closer look and confirm if you are being affected by the same issue.

Feel free to upload your file here in the discussion or privately through a support case.

      Hi Steven

Thank you for your answer - I did upload my file in a support case. I'm glad to hear that I didn't overlook something very obvious. Good luck tracking and solving that bug :)

Do you have any idea if we can expect the bugfix soon (then I would wait for it) or if it might take months for it to be solved (then I design the button withouth a hover)?

      • Hi Samira!

You're welcome. Thank you for following up!

I see that you've connected with my teammate Ian, through your support case. As Ian shared, we can confirm the behavior you described is related to a Storyline bug currently being tracked. This bug causes:

        • Editing States on the Feedback Master does not change States on the Feedback Layer.

In the meantime, as a workaround, we suggest modifying Button States for each individual layer, at the Slide-level.

I've linked this discussion to the bug report, so we can notify you as soon as a fix is in place. While I can't speak to a timeline of when this issue will be resolved, this article goes into deeper detail on how we manage feature requests.

Thank you for your patience. I'm sorry if this has been slowing you down!
