Font issues in Rise using Open Sans

In Rise whenever i type the letter 'i' using Open Sans font it shows in uppercase.

However, when I changed the font to Merriweather it resolved the issue...????

  • Thanks for reaching out, Karen! We are seeing some issues with built-in fonts (such Open Sans) not displaying correctly in Rise 360.

For now, as a workaround, if you want to use Open Sans you can download the latest version of Open Sans from Google or use a similar font as a custom font using the steps found here.

We're taking a closer look at this problem, and we'll update everyone here when we have new information to share!

Any updates on this issue? We just noticed this in our course whenever we use Open Sans and bold text. Strangely, only some of the "i" become uppercase (note "fi" vs. "tI").

  • Hi Fraser, sorry to hear that you are experiencing the Open Sans font issue. While we don't have any updates about this, have you tried uploading the latest version of Open Sans from Google fonts?

Thanks Chino, I got the Open Sans font from Google, converted the .ttf files to .woff, and added them as a custom font. This seems to have fixed the problem, thanks!

Also, I discovered a strange detail while testing the fix. With the standard (not working) Open Sans font, bolded "i" becomes "I" only at 100% zoom. I zoomed the Chrome browser to 90% and 110%, and at both those zoom settings, the "i" appeared correctly. Hopefully that can help in diagnosing and resolving the issue with the current default font.
