Freeform drag n drop slide locking itself if incomplete when revisiting

Greetings,

I ran into the following problem, as follows:

  • The slide is a freeform drag n drop, set with "Return item to start point if dropped outside [a correct drop target]".
  • The Next button is disabled so the user cannot progress until the drag n drop is completed.
  • The Previous button still functions as intended.
  • The slide is set to "Resume Saved State", as I want the user to be able to review the slide if revisiting.
  • The user is not blocked if he either chooses to leave everything blank or completes it.
  • However, if the user starts the drag n drop by dragging at least one element, but decides to leave the slide (via the Previous button or by the Menu) and then goes back to the drag n drop slide, the user is blocked.
  • The slide doesn't allow the user to complete the drag n drop, as every answer is marked as "Drop Incorrect", which prevents the user to progress, as the Next button doesn't become available.

A "Reset to Initial State" doesn't block the user, but I want to save the user's answers for the drag n drop slide. SL3 (latest patch) seems to think that move away from the slide counts as a completion, when it should retains that the slide wasn't completed, and thus the user can resume the slide and complete it. This might affect whether the user quits the course at this slide and decides to resume where he was at when reopening it.

  • Hi there, Jean-Christophe. Thanks for checking in!

Our team is still investigating the issue where resuming a drag and drop slide with 'Reveal drag items one at a time' checked causes the slide to lock. As soon as we have a fix in place, we'll share the news here!

In the meantime, we're happy to have a closer look at your project to see what approaches tailored to your setup we can offer. If you're able to share the .story file, please use this private upload link.

  • Hi Katie,

I have used some "trickery" to make it seamless, as the drag n drop slide doesn't lock itself if it is set to reset its initial state. I would like to note that the drag n drop slide locks itself regardless if the items are revealed one by one or otherwise. It even locks itself if I check "unlimited attempts".

The major issue is that a freeform drag n drop slide locks itself if it is set to resume its saved state, when it should not do so until the quiz is completed. It doesn't matter if the items are revealed one at the time or all there (I used hidden states to hide the following drag items, being revealed after being the prvious is correctly dropped), the drop boxes become disabled when you move around the course with either navigation buttons or the menu.

That's like starting to fill some questions on paper in a book, going back a few pages before to re-read the lessons again and finding out that you "cannot turn the page" because you cannot keep writing your answers.

  • Hi, everyone.

I just wanted to share that we are no longer seeing the bug reported where Resuming a Drag and Drop slide with "Reveal drag items one at a time" will cause the slide to lock using the latest build of Storyline (3.61.27106.0).

If you're using the latest version and you're still experiencing this issue, please reach out to our support team through a case
