Hidden Next button displays before it hides - how do I fix that?
For the first slide in my Storyline 2 project, I'm using state-change triggers to hide the Next button when the timeline starts, then show it when the timeline ends. However, when I preview/publish the project, the Next button displays for a moment when the project starts, then hides and reappears as it's supposed to.
As a test, I put a slide in front of that one, and then the Next button behaved as desired. So the problem with the hide/show slide seems to have something to do with the fact that it's the first one in the project.
Any suggestions on how to fix this, without having to put a slide in front of it?

Hi Stuart, thanks for reaching out here. This is actually a known issue, and it is still in the hands of our Quality Assurance team. Although I'm not able to offer a timeline for a solution, I'll be sure to add this forum thread to the report and post updates here as they are available.

If the slide in front of it looks like the "first" slide, but does not show the next button, and advances after .1 sec, probably none of your users will notice.
Thanks for the tip, Walt. That's the solution I was using, but Nancy's suggestion below solves another problem as well, so that's what I'm going with.
Another option might be to set the next button to disabled instead of hiding it. I prefer this method because it avoids that strange little jump that occurs in the buttons when the hidden button changes back to normal. Also disabling the button instead of hiding it gives the user a chance to learn where controls and buttons live within the interface.
Good suggestion, Nancy, because this also solves my other problem, which is eliminating the changing height of the bottom bar, depending on whether or not there's anything in it. Thanks!
Hi all. I'm using SL 360, and cannot seem to avoid the Next button appearing Normal when the timeline first starts. I've tried Disabled and Hidden when timeline starts, but it still flashes Normal briefly. I played with variables but no luck. Any ideas?
Have you tried putting the disabled trigger on the Slide Master? I have done this in the past. I can enable it on specific slides that need it.

Thanks for letting us know you are still experiencing the bug in the program where a hidden next button is still being displayed briefly! This bug has already been reported and I'm going to add your voice to the report. If there's any news regarding this bug, this conversation will be updated.
In the meantime, have you tried the workarounds posted earlier in this conversation?
it happens if you use slide transitions
the trigger "on timeline starts" is delayed until the end of the transition
example
- chapter 1: no transition - next button ok & the small rectangle is always invisible
- chapter 2: 5 sec transition - "next button disabled" 5 sec delayed & small rectangle visible the first 5 sec

Just to add to Jürgen's response, does your slide make use of transitions before the next slide is loaded? And if yes, does removing the transitions allow the next buttons in your course to be properly hidden?
