How to remove slider from uploaded videos (so learners have to watch the whole clip)

Hello everyone,

I can't find a solution for this one for the love of me, so any help would be greatly appreciated. My issue is the following:

I upload a video from files. I add the video control bar at the bottom of the video. One of the functions of this bar is that learners can slide the playhead which means that they can just slide to the last second and they are not "pushed" to watch the whole thing. My objective here is that learners watch the video from start to finish.

I tried to put a transparent shape on the slider but the problem is that the size of the slider changes if you put the video on full screen (or disappears) so it's not really helpful. I can just remove the video controls bar but in that case learners wouldn't be able to see how long the video is (personally I'd hate it as a learner).

  • Hi Szabolcs, and welcome to the E-Learning Heroes Community! So happy you're here! 🥳

Thanks so much for reaching out! So sorry to hear you've run into a snag when it comes to ensuring your learners don't scrub forward when watching your video content.

I'd like to suggest using the Conditional Seekbar as a workaround. Here's an article that goes into detail on how to use this within your Storyline project.

Utilizing this feature prevents learners from skipping ahead until they've completed a slide. The seekbar is locked the first time learners view the slide. After that, they can drag the seekbar back and forth.

I hope this helps! Please let us know if you have any other questions!

Hey Luciana, thank you so much for your prompt reply!

I do like your method and I might use it in the future, but it still lacks the indication on the screen regarding how long the video is, how much is left etc. To prevent learners to skip ahead by the way I use the "disable NEXT button when timeline starts" and then the "set NEXT button to normal when media completes" triggers.

I just wish the video controls bar were a bit more customizable and we could set what elements we can have there.

Anyway, thanks again Luciana and let's see if others have any other solutions.

  • You're most welcome, Szabolcs! Thanks for sharing your thoughts.

Glad that this suggestion of using the Conditional Seekbar might help you with future projects!

I look forward to seeing if any other community members have a favorite workaround they'd be able to share!

    Have a great afternoon!
