How to report custom score variables to Scorm for tracking when publishing for an LMS

Hi everyone,

Not sure if there has been such a discussion before.  But I would like to know, how can I include custom score variables for tracking purposes when I publish for LMS deployment?  The only variables that pick up automatically are those for built-in graded questions.  I ask, because I built some game-like interactions and can only report the scores to a separate slide where the user can see it (results slide or a score card slide). Scorm will only report on built-in score variables e.g.  Pick One, Drag and Drop, Pick Many, etc.

Kind regards,

Lisa

  • Thank you, but following this article you cannot assign a number based variable (such as a percentage or a point to a text variable, thus following the blank question slide option will not work.  I am not proficient in xAPI statements to use the first method.

      Hello Lisa,

Thanks for the additional information! Hopefully, someone from the community will have some ideas that they'd be willing to share on how this can be achieved. I'm curious to see if this can be done using Javascript.

Did you figure out a way to do this? I'm in the same situation...

I did this using survey questions, as explained in the second part of the above article. You have to create a SURVEY slide, not a question slide, then use a trigger. In my case, I assigned a numeric variable to the answer to the question on the question slide, then created a blank, hidden slide with the trigger: Set NumericEntry to variable "score from the question" when timeline starts on this slide. It works. However, I'll caution you that even though the information is retained in the SCORM file, it is still hard to extract on a per person basis from our LMS, which usually only shows cumulative data for survey responses.
