Inserting GIF files into Storyline
Hello!
I am working on an eLearning projext that requires a lot of GIF files from the client to be integrated into the learning.
While searching the forums I found several posts where people got help in making GIF files work and a few saying that GIF files need to be converted to SWF files.
Which is correct?
Can I insert a GIF file into Storyline? If so How?
If not - how can I convert the GIF to SWF?
Thanks

Hi Jill,
Admittedly, I cannot open that .gif at all. Is this coming from the same location as your last .gif you had difficulty with?
I grabbed a .gif off Giphy and was able to successfully view and use in Storyline. Files attached.

Well, it's probably the .gif that I was attempting to use. I may check out giphy.
I'm in the medical industry so I had been looking for something specific to that. But, I see on Giphy that they have those, too.
Thanks!
Oh, hopefully they do have some things for you to use then :) Thanks for the update Jill and just let us know if you need further assistance.
Hi Rajani and welcome to E-Learning Heroes :)

Actually, I got a response but still am unable to get a GIF to work in Storyline 360.
I'm beginning to think it's the way I'm able to download it. Is there a computer setting that I can change?
One of my coworkers can download it and it works just fine. But it just doesn't work for me. I tried so many time - unsuccessfully - that I finally just gave up! :)
Thanks for any ideas or suggestions you may have!
Jill
Hey Jill,
So, even using another site, the items are not downloading in a useable format for you?
I've not heard of that happening.
Could you try in a different browser perhaps? Do you have a website/URL link to a gif that I could take a look at to see if it works well for me?
It also looks like your email signature came through when you replied via email. You can remove that if needed by clicking ‘Edit’ beneath your response. Here’s a quick Peek video if you need help.

Okay, so I’m using giphy..com (https://giphy.com/gifs/animation-heart-xUA7biF7n8LcAqh4bK/undefined).
I don’t actually see an option to download so perhaps that’s where it’s going wrong? (I’ve tried other sites, too, but this was recommended by someone who was trying to help me previously.)
I see options to copy the link, embed, etc. OR if I right click on the image, I can copy, etc. If I do copy, it saves as a .gif on my computer. But, when I try to insert that into a video, it doesn’t work. I just get a static image with no “giphy” action.
Perhaps I’m just doing it wrong?
Thanks for your help.
Jill
P.S. As far as the signature, I’m just using the email to reply – not posting on the site. When I clicked the link to post directly to the site, I didn’t see this thread (between you and me), so I was confused.
Thanks again.

Thanks for sharing the link with me Jill.
I tend to make gifs more than search, and they sure don't make it easy to save. I had to do a right-click 'Save Image As' and then was able to add that image to my SL file.
I'll attach both here for you to take a look and see if it works for you as well.

Hallelujah! I've got it now! and it works!
Thank you so much for your patience and diligence in helping me to get this work. I swear I'm not really a novice at this whole thing but was obviously missing something here! (And I promise this isn't my first day to sit at a computer!) :^)
I do want to learn how to create them and need to watch Tom K's recording on how to do that. If you have any other helpful hints or links for creating your own gifs, please feel free to share.
Thanks again for your help, Leslie!

Woo hoo! Glad I was able to help you out Jill :)
Eh, I'm not so fun with gifs - it's usually just screen recordings to help customers here that end up being 15s or less and I just turn 'em into a gif so I don't have to voice over :)
I don't know how to make fun ones either.
Be sure to pop back in and show me what you come up with :)
