Interaction jumping to next slide automatically rather than when click "next"

I am working on an interaction in Storyline.  When I preview the slide on its own, it works fine, i.e. when the learner clicks submit it either shows the "correct" or "incorrect" layer.  However, when I add another slide into the scene, it automatically jumps to the next slide after flashing up the "correct" or "incorrect" slide ... but my triggers only have it jumping to next slide if the user clicks "next"!

I have attached the file for reference.

I can't work out why this is happening!  Thanks for responding.

  • I think the problem could be that you're using a graded question slide without anything to grade.

That might be "confusing" to the functionality built into graded questions.

Since you're using custom programming and scoring, I suggest you rebuild the scenario on a regular slide.

Thank you for responding.  Unfortunately, it isn't that.  I have amended it in the attached so that it is a normal slide.  I have shown one scene with just the interaction slide on its own, which shows that the correct/incorrect layer shows when they hit submit.  However, in the other scene I have added a second slide, and it automatically shows that slide rather than the correct/incorrect!

The issue stems from a shape in the button's hover state. You should isolate this shape (cut it) from the hover state and paste it onto the slide. Next, delete the trigger "Jump to slide next slide" and cut and paste it back into the hover state. Attached is a video demonstrating interaction.

      Good sleuthing, Nedim!

It's been a long time since I've seen the "trigger attached to an object within a state" issue, so I didn't consider that when I first looked at the file.

Bottom line: When pasting an object into the state of another object, first be sure there are no triggers attached to the object being copied and pasted.

Thanks, Judy. I would not have known if I had not experienced exactly the same issue when creating this hover effect a while ago.

  • Oh my goodness, thank you so much Nedim!  I have never come across that before and it was really hurting my brain as to why I couldn't fix it - you are a legend!  I'll make sure I do all states before adding any triggers in future :)

Really good work Nedim.   I always forget about those pesky triggers that come along when you paste into states, and then you can't edit them once there, but you can see they are there!  Good thing for anyone to add to their checklist when debugging.
