Issue “You need Articulate Localization to open this project”

Hi,

I have an issue here. I never had Articulate Localization, never tried it.
All of a sudden, when I open a file that worked perfectly fine before, I have the message.

“You need Articulate Localization to open this project”

What should I do ? I need to publish it now.

Thank you in advance for your answer.

Just posting to be a number here because I also starting having this issue yesterday with one of the main files I've been working on.  I submitted a ticket because nothing suggested above works and no one else on my time can open it either, but haven't been contacted about it yet.

  • Hi everyone, and thanks for the tag here, JudyNollet.

I understand how concerning it is to suddenly see this message on Storyline files that were previously opening normally.

I can confirm that several customers in this thread are already actively working with our Support Engineers in individual support cases, and the team is continuing to investigate further. Igitur77, if you haven’t already, please connect with our Support team here so we can gather logs and your affected Storyline file for investigation.

We’ll continue tracking reports and will share updates as we learn more.

  • Hi, just commenting to let you know this is happening to me as well. I've taken the above steps, tried opening on a different device and the error message remains. I;ve never had the localisation feature so I don't understand what's happening.

After experiencing the same issue, I can confirm that neither reinstalling or rolling back to a previous version worked for me. I have submitted a ticket and will be sending them my logs later today.

My team is having this issue as well.  As an added note, this only began after the last update.  We have all submitted cases.

  • I'm having the same issue. Restarting and reinstalling didn't work for me either. I sent in a support ticket, hopefully it's an easy fix!

  • Igitur77 & GraceMSH: How frustrating! I can't replicate the issue, so this is definitely a job for the support staff.

Here's one more thing to try: revert to a previous version of Storyline. You can do that through the Articulate 360 app:

If that doesn't work, that's one more piece of information that might help the support folks.

StevenBenassi, LaurenDuvall, and EricSantos: I'm tagging you to ensure this issue gets attention.

Thanks, Judy! I did fresh installs of the current May 12 and the previous May 5 builds with no change to the issue. I submitted a support ticket. I can open and access Storyline files made before today, so I'm hoping it's a today-only issue. I'm running the May 12 build on a Windows 11 computer. I was able to publish a ZIP from the affected file just after 1pm EST, but I could not reopen the file after that.

Chiming in to note I'm experiencing this issue as well. Restarting and reinstalling Storyline 360 does not change the issue, and the Storyline import workaround does not work since the file is seen by the software as incompatible. I plan to submit a case to Articulate for guidance.

  • That is what's politely called "unexpected behavior." Here’s some standard advice that the staff usually offers:

    Quit Storyline and relaunch it.

If that doesn’t help, try to repair Storyline

If all that fails to help, submit a case directly to the Articulate staff. You can do that here: https://access.articulate.com/support/contact

Because you need to publish now, here's another option that might work: Create a new Storyline project, and try to import all the slides from the project you can't open.
