JAWS is announcing the disabled state of the button twice

JAWS now announces the disabled state of a button twice—first when focusing on the overall button control, and again when focusing/reading the button text. In previous versions, it only announced the accessible text once followed by unavailable.

Can't name the build that introduced this one — I haven't hit this exact regression myself. But the pattern (announced once on the control, then again on the inner text) usually means the text node inside the button is being exposed separately from the control, each carrying the state.

Two quick tests to narrow it: try NVDA and see if it doubles up there too — JAWS-only points at a JAWS interpretation change, not the published output. And check the Focus Order dialog for custom accessible text that duplicates the on-slide text.

If it's consistent across readers, I'd file it with support. "Announced once before, announces twice now" is exactly the kind of regression they're responsive to — note your JAWS version and Storyline build when you do.

Behaviour update: focusing on the overall button control, and again in the corner of the button when the button has no text announcing the alt text twice.

That detail narrows it down a lot — JAWS is picking the alt text up twice, once from the button control and once from the graphic nested inside it. If it has to stay icon-only, check the inner graphic's alt text and clear it so only the button carries the name; if real text is an option, that beats alt text for reliability.

My button is a rectangle with an ALT text and a disable state. Still reads twice.

NVDA does not repeat the ALT text twice.

NVDA staying clean is the tell — it's JAWS reading the same accessible name twice, not your output producing two names. At this point I'd file it with Articulate support: JAWS-only, shape-with-alt-text, doubled disabled-state announcement. Include your JAWS version and Storyline build; 'worked in NVDA, doubled in JAWS' is the kind of clean repro that gets these triaged.
