Layers not allowing for swipe in Storyline

I have a slide that has multiple layers of text. Each time a user clicks the button or swipes, the next layer of text is shown. The base layer has these player triggers, so it should support all of the other layers, but when I preview it, neither clicking or swiping works for the layers. Any idea why this is happening?

  • Hi Melissa,

I'm sorry you're having this issue with triggers! We would love to troubleshoot this for you! Would you be willing to share your file here or with our support engineers privately in a support case?

    Thanks for reaching out!

  • Sorry - I ran out of time to continue messing with this yesterday, and just moved each layer to a separate slide to resolve the problem.

After thinking about it overnight, I believe that the issue I was encountering was caused by the unique names of each of my layers on that slide. The player trigger from the base layer pointed to the subsequent layer by its name, for example, Bullet 1. The other layers are named Bullet 2, Bullet 3, etc. Since each layer has a different name than Bullet 1, the player-level trigger couldn't work for the other layers.

If there is a way around this, I would love to know!

    Thanks!

  • Hi Melissa,

Thanks for the update! Nice job troubleshooting your issue! If your layers have unique names the triggers need those names to display the right layer.

If there's anything else you need, don't hesitate to ask!
