LMS Commits and Timeouts
I am using Storyline 2
We are having issues with learners opening courses and then leaving them open for a long time and our LMS times out. The course is still open so the learners will come back and complete the course and assessment and Exit after passing the test. But because the LMS has logged them out due to inactivity the score is not passed to the LMS and they don't get a completion status. They then have to retake the course.
We are going to create a LMS timeout message that will display in the LMS if the session is getting ready to timeout to tell them to exit the course and relaunch it.
Is this this automatic LMS commit something that is available in Storyline and if so can we add it to our courses?
Please help me in this query.
Thank you in advance...

Hi Mohammad,
Sorry to hear that your LMS is timing out! You may want to take a look at the steps here to alert users to the lost connection with their LMS.

Hi Ashley,
The steps that you mentioned were for Storyline 1 and 2 but they don't seem to work for Storyline 360. Any ideas of what can work on Storyline 360 for the same issue.

Did we find any solution for this?
Hi Sameeksha,
Whoops - sorry we missed your post the other week! I don't see the same steps documented for Storyline 360, but I'm double checking with my team. I'll let you know as soon as I can.

Thanks Ashley! I am still struggling and can't find a solution. Let me know once your team finds a way to track the LMS timeout in Storyline.
Hi Sameeksha!
Thanks for being so patient while we investigated this in Storyline 3 and Storyline 360.
We've now updated our article to include newer versions of Storyline: Storyline 360 and Storyline 3: Let LMS Learners Know When They Lose Their Internet Connection
Currently, this feature only works with Flash output, not HTML5 output. If you're using Storyline 360, you must choose the classic player style and include Flash output when you publish your course.
It sounds like you also have a need to use this feature in HTML5, so I've submitted that feature request on your behalf. If HTML5 support is added in the future, we'll let you know!

Thanks Alyssa Gomez. Yeah as we are using modern player for all our storyline courses so I wanted a solution for HTML5 output. Thanks for looking into this.
Ah, that makes sense, Sameeksha! I've let our team know that you'd like to see the same functionality for HTML5. If we are able to add that in the future, we'll let you know!

Hi Alyssa Gomez
Is there any update on this?
Hi, Sameeksha. Thanks for checking in!
While I don't have an update to share as of yet, we've still got our eye on this feature request and will let you know here if there's any forward movement. You're in the right place, and here's an inside look at how we manage and prioritize feature requests. ☺️
