Looking for Documentation on Modern Player Regions and Tools

I'm working on matching navigation instructions with what screen readers announce for the modern player interface. Does anyone have a comprehensive list of the names for each region and the tools contained within them?

For example, it sounds like the "miscellaneous controls region" includes settings and playback speed options, but I'm figuring this out by listening to the screen reader.

If there's official documentation or any detailed list available, I’d greatly appreciate it! Thanks!

    Hello ChristineFlande

Specific instructions shouldn't be necessary for your screen reader users. This article shares information about our accessible player: Storyline 360: The Accessible Player Makes Navigation Easier.

We do not have the specific region details documented since what the screen reader says will depend on what player features are included, where they are placed (sidebar vs. top bar), and what screen reader is being used.

However, I did want to share a high-level explanation of defaults in case it's helpful:

    • playback control region (play/pause, seekbar, replay)
    • miscellaneous control region (volume/mute/slider, playback speed, settings)
    • slide navigation navigation region (full screen, prev/next)
    • sidebar region ( menu, glossary, notes, search)
    • top bar region (resources)
  • Thank you, SamHill for your response! I can see how to rename the buttons that the screen reader announces, but not the regions where these buttons are located.

When giving instructions, I’d like to be able to say something like, “The menu button is located in the top bar region” so learners know when they’ve navigated to that area using the tab key. For example, the screen reader might announce: “Region top bar: button menu, button preferences, button accessibility; out of region” as learners move through it.

It would be helpful to accurately list these regions in my instructions for keyboard users who rely on screen readers rather than visual navigation.

I can figure this out myself by listening as I navigate with a screen reader, but I was wondering if there’s a definitive list of region names and the default buttons they contain.
