Were you able to dive any further into the issues you were experiencing with automatic dark mode in browsers? I have been able to replicate this issue on a number of projects by using the browser dev tools for Edge and Chrome.
My findings were that, while text and background colour formatting appeared to change effectively between white and black when the dark mode was toggled, shapes were not updating at all.
