Mobile Player App not opening link (Storyline 3 course)

I have published my Storyline 3 course to allow for the mobile player app, uploaded it to the Amazon S3 hosting site, and sent myself the story.html link to test. The link will open in a web browser, but not the app. I also tried renaming the link to index.html which did not work as well. Most articles I found refer to Storyline 2.

Any suggestions on how to get the course to open in the app? Has anyone had luck hosting a file on an LMS and sharing a link that way?

  • Hi there, Erin. Happy to dive in!

To prepare for the sunset of flash, publishing courses for HTML5 only is a great choice to have a wider array of supported browsers as more browsers prevent Flash from running automatically or being enabled.

The Articulate Mobile Player relies on Flash, while Storyline 3's HTML5 output and responsive player fluidly respond to the screen size and orientation of any mobile device.

Here's a link to the HTML5 output of a sample course hosted in AWS. Let me know how this loads on your mobile device!

HI Katie - Is Articulate's recommendation moving forward to use the AWS-style hosting/HTML5 output method of delivering courses outside of an LMS?

  • Hi Erin!

Great question! Personally, I like using AWS because of its simplicity!

We don't have specific recommendations on where to upload your courses but we do recommend using the HTML5 output to gear up for the removal of flash.

There is quite a large selection of different applications on the Internet. But not all of them work effectively. I really liked the app umobix realspyapps.com/review/umobix/ I have carefully studied the review. The app is available for both android and iPhone. I plan to try it out one of these days.
