Monthly Subscription to Storyline?

I am looking to move into instructional design. I would love to learn Storyline and become expert at it, and would be willing to pay a reasonable monthly subscription fee to do so. I simply cannot pay $1000 to learn a program which may or may NOT be used by a potential employer.
So... where does the company expect people to learn the software?
