Mute/remove audio from screen recording?
While recording the screen for a Try It simulation, I clicked on No Audio and turned the mic off in the recorder settings (it was the one with the eq lighting up, so I figured that was the only one that needed changed). However, the background music I was listening to while doing the screen recording made it into the simulation because the speakers weren't turned off in the record settings.
Now, whenever the media plays in the simulation you can hear little bits of a song. I really don't want to have to go back and re-do the entire simulation because of this. Is there a way to strip the audio or mute the audio prior to publishing, or even in the published version and just turn the volume option in the player off so the users can't turn it up?
Thanks,
Ryan

Hi Ryan,
I found out the hard way that if you don't disable your "Speakers" as well, you'll get whatever background sound you have going recorded in your screen recordings.
There's no currently no built-in feature that allows you to edit out audio that's been added to a step-by-step or "Try it" simulation. However, and I'm not sure if this will work for you, you can insert the same recording as a single video and mute the video. Of course, you won't be able to use the same interactions in the video, but you will have the recording and the ability to mute or remove the audio.
If you do decide to record the simulation again, just be sure you uncheck the option for "Speakers" before you record.
Thanks!

Thanks, Christine. I was hoping that wouldn't be my only course of action. :( Time to start over, I guess! At least I can still copy and paste all the callouts and whatnot. Timing will just need to be redone.
Poo. Thanks, though.

Hi Ryan,
Sorry about that! Hopefully the project goes well and hopefully it doesn't take up too much time for you.
I hope you have a great weekend!

I'm probably too late to help Ryan but others that may encounter this, here is a workaround to avoid having to re-record the screen cast.
There are two options depending on your requirements.
- Remove all audio
- Go to the slide that has the video on it
- Click on the video in the timeline
- From the Ribbon click 'Edit Video'
- This brings up the edit video window
- Click 'Volume'
- A volume slider appears, drag it down to -100
- You should now have no audio in the published video.
- Remove All Audio - Replace Voice Over
- From the Story View click 'Record Screen'
- Click the screencast you wish to edit
- The Insert Slides window opens
- Right Click on the image of the screencast
- Choose 'Export Movie'
- This exports the movie to MP4
- Record the Voice over
- Bring the voice over file and the MP4 into a video editing program
- Sync the audio to the video
- Mute the original audio on the video
- Export the MP4 and replace the video on you timeline with the newly imported video.
I hope this helps someone. Instructions are for Storyline 1.

Hi, maybe you need a third-party program to help you remove or mute audio from recorded video. As far as I know, there are some free ways that you may try to remove the audio. For example: you may use YouTube editor (www.youtube/editor) to do it by just uploading files, dragging files to video timeline and just slide the volume slider to mute the sound. Or if you have installed VLC on your computer, you can also use it to mute audio in video.

My client in Saudi Arabia wanted to use some other Authoring tool. I said over my dead body! So they cut my head off :))) Jokes! I explained to them the community is second to none and the technical support is magnificent. Thanks all for your contributions!
Ha! Glad you find value here Dwight - thanks for sharing. I certainly got a laugh out of that and will be sharing with the team :)

If the audio in the screen recording is from a mouse click or drag, then you can mute it by hiding the mouse in the Timeline.
