"Object reference not set to an instance of an object"
Hi - I am getting this message when trying to save a Storyline file that had saved successfully earlier today. From reading the few other conversations on the topic, I am not seeing anything that looks to promising for being able to get out of this without losing my most recent work. Everything related to the file is on the same local hard drive where the file resides, so it isn't a portable drive issue.
Thanks for any quick advice anyone has to offer -- that is, other than to save more often! ; )

Hi Kathy,
It i'll always insert it at the end of the scene you're in - not where you have placed your slides. But instead of copying and pasting, what about selecting those slides and changing their location by dragging in Story view? I think the copy/paste behavior is causing some unintended consequences.

Okay, I will try moving the slides instead of cut and paste. I will let you know if that works! Thanks so much, Ashley.
Sounds good Kathy and let us know how it goes

I have no idea how this fixed the issue, but I received this error when Storyline was running really slow and I tried to save the file (my computer fan was running pretty hard, and the screen would temporarily freeze). I tried saving the file to a new location (desktop) and I successfully saved the project without receiving the error.
Just thought this might help for someone out there!
Thanks for sharing Sarah :)

I am now moving my demo slides instead of cutting and pasting (I just moved a 204-slide demo from one scene to another), and this seems to work! Thanks so much! I'll also keep in mind saving to a new location if I get the error again.
Glad that solution helped you Kathy. Thanks for sharing :)

A pretty old thread, but it was one of the top results when I googled so thought I'd add my 2 cents.
I had this error today, turned out I did actually have a button which had lost is connection so I fixed that but the issue still persisted. I simply saved as and alternate name it corrected itself straight away.
Thanks Troy for the update. It may be worth checking out the best practices here to prevent odd behavior such as corruption in your files.

I am getting the project file could not be saved, but I was able to save it all last week. I am scared to import to new project because I will lose my updates. I found this thread with the last response over 5 years ago. I am hoping for a better fix.
