Opinions Needed: Using voice with photographic or cartoon characters

Hi all,

I'm turning to this group because of all the amazing talent I've seen in it over the years.  I have a question about using voice (whether it be real or AI) alongside the photographic or cartoon characters in Storyline.  

I had someone tell me recently, that people have an aversion to voice with the photographic characters - that it throws them off and makes them focus on the character rather than the content.  In the same discussion, it was shared that people seem to accept voice with the cartoon characters more so than with the photographic characters.

I am really looking for your input and insight.  In my 30+ years of doing this, I've never heard of such aversion from audiences.  I'm curious to know your thoughts and if by chance, you've encountered any research to support the varying thoughts out there.
