Pausing video when user is multi-tasking

Hello all,

I am not sure how to do this, but I have seen it done in a course, the videos will stop playing as soon as the WBT pop up window is no longer "in front" on the desktop. So no more multi-tasking and letting a video play in the background.

I was wondering if anyone has done this yet?  Or has some other really cool tips that can help pause the video when another browser is open?

Thanks all.

  • Hello Melissa and welcome to E-Learning Heroes :)

Is your content opening in a new tab within the same browser or is another window opening?

When the content opens in a new tab, such as with this example, the video will pause when clicking to another tab, but not when opening another window/program. An LMS typically opens in a new window.

I look forward to seeing how users have accomplished a similar goal with their courses.

When the video is not centered on the learners screen, it pauses until the video is centered.  I have never seen this before.  We do not have access to the source file which is a huge bummer.  I was just curious if something like this has been created.

  • Hi Melissa,

I've not seen an issue where the video wouldn't play if it wasn't centered - so that does sound quite curious! Are you able to share the link here with us to take a look at? If you don't have the source file for Storyline there may not be much else to change/fix here, but it's worth taking a look at!

  • Hi, Ahmad.
