possible bug with slide layer property: Prevent the user from clicking on the base layer

The "Prevent the user from clicking on the base layer" function seems to work fine, unless there's an item on the base layer that has a trigger with "User clicks outside". In that case, the trigger will be activated regardless of the layer the user is on, and regardless of whether "Prevent the user from clicking on the base layer" is selected.

Yes, I know there are work arounds.

  • Thanks for bringing this up, Alex. I'll try and recreate this issue in a new file. What version of Storyline are you using?

  • Hey Alex. I'm excited to let you know that we just released update 3 for Storyline 3! It includes new features and fixes - check them all out here.

One of the fixes addresses an issue where in the HTML5 output, the trigger "when clicking outside an object" on the base or slide layer seemed to be firing even if you are not on the layer where the trigger resides.

Here’s where you can download and install the latest version of Storyline 3. Let me know how you make out!

I see that this an old issue in multiple threads. I am running SL360 Beta v.3.51.24733 and it is still an issue. Any button or text entry field can still be clicked on even if you set the Layer Properties to Prevent User from Clicking on Base Layer. IN PREVIEW.
Why can we not get this to work in PREVIEW Mode?

Am I missing something here.. 3 Years and it doesn't look like it is fixed??

  • Hi Sean!

I'm happy to help! Unfortunately, I do not see the same on my end. I've added a text entry to a slide and a button to show a layer. When the layer is active, I can't click on the text entry field.

I've added the .story file to this discussion. Would you mind taking a look?

OK thats weird. Yes it works. And I just updated my SL360 today and now it works. Plus I had some funky thing going on with the layer hiding also and now it works.
Anyway this was driving me nuts. Thank you for the reply and maybe you just scared it into working. ;)
