Previous button, how to allow users to go back (previus) and not have to complete interactions they have already done.

We have created an animation where the user has to click items on the screen before the next button appears. When they use the previous button, they are forced to redo all of the clicks and go back through each slide. Is there a way to ensure the actions have been marked as clicked so they can just review the information, and the next button is available to go back to where they originally left?
