Hi Boris,
Thanks for sharing that here, and I did a bit more digging about resuming to the slide layer and determined that Storyline automatically saves slide information when a learner advances to another slide, but if a learner is on a slide and clicks the Course Exit button or closes the browser window, the state of that slide isn’t saved because he or she hasn’t yet proceeded to a different slide. That is why when you go back, it returns to the initial state of the base slide. Currently this is by design.
As a workaround, you might want to use slides instead of layer before doing the jump to URL/File trigger. You may also find the following article useful:
