Recording hot spots visited in Data audit

I have created multiple hot spots on one slide, when clicked, it takes the learner to a branching slide for more information. As part of our data collection, we want to record each user's response, as to which hot spots were visited.

After viewing the branching slide, they are returned to the main hot spot slide. When they are finally done viewing what they want to see, they can click next on the hot spot slide to exit the scene.

Additionally, I added a Text Entry slide in the beginning, so they user enters a unique ID number into the box. I want their selection of hot spots visited to be associated or recorded to this unique ID number as part of the analytics. I have added a results slide for the quiz questions to the module.

Questions:

  1. How to record hot spot slides visited and associate their selection with the text entry number.
  2. How to make sure the text entry (user ID) is recorded in the data collection?
  3. What type of results slide(s) do I need to use to record all of these interactions?

Thank you for any assistance you can provide.

Hi Ann, you are able to do this with variables. Under Triggers, when you add a trigger to, lets say, the clicking on a hotspot. You should choose the adjust variable trigger under more. Here you can make variables you can add values to. Like a user ID, or a numerical value. On the insert tab in the top menu you can insert a reference in a text box. This will display the value of the variable, for a result screen for example.

KatieRiggio has a user guide where they go into more detail on this.

    Good luck!

Hey there. EAB's answered the lion's share about working with variables, but I'll throw my .02 in as well. As long as you're using xAPI, recording the data shouldn't be a problem. Articulate has a well-developed trigger for capturing xAPI data. SCORM, however, is much more limited.
