I looked into Kai's case, and it appeared that there was a minor file corruption that affected the custom slide master used. Changing the slide master to the default with the following steps resolved the problem.
- Right-click the slide and select Apply Layout
- Select Blank from the default slide master
- Recreate the custom slide master and apply it to the slide to restore the project.
