"Retake Course" issue
Hi community,
I have a "retake course" button at the end of my courses (the trigger says "Restart course") in case learners want to go through the material again, but I notice strange issues tend to occur sometimes when taking the course a second time using the 'retake course' button (such as an arrow button to go to the next slide not working, or text on the base layer showing through on other layers when they didn't on the first pass (and shouldn't anyway based on how I've designed the course).
For today, the problem is this: I have a knowledge check at the end of one of my sections in a course. When a learner takes the course the first time, they're able to complete the knowledge check and click Submit in the bottom-right corner with no issues. However, if they click "retake course" at the end of the course and go through the material again, the Submit button disappears on the knowledge check slide and is replaced by <PREV NEXT> buttons, except the NEXT> button doesn't work, so the learner is stuck on this page. I've been able to recreate this on my end several times now.
Any thoughts on how to fix? Should I simply remove the "retake course" button from the end of my courses to avoid all these random issues, or am I missing design steps when implementing this button using the 'restart course' trigger?

I’m unable to reproduce this issue. I do recall the “Restart Course” trigger causing problems in earlier versions of Storyline. I’m currently using the latest version.
Have you tried updating, if you haven’t already? If you have, could you please upload a mockup or a simplified version of your project (without any sensitive information) so someone can take a closer look?
I uploaded a shortened test version and replaced most of the info (all the sensitive parts). After I go through the course one time and then click Retake at the end, it seems to be getting stuck on an earlier slide than the one I mentioned above. Strange!
I am probably missing something, as I am still unable to reproduce the issue even with the attached file.
Steps taken:- Went through the course once and clicked "Retake Course" at the end.
- Was taken back to the beginning and was able to take the course again; the Knowledge Check question appeared to be reset as well.
- Was able to repeat the steps above as many times as I wanted.
- I didn't experience the issue where the Submit button disappears and is replaced by the PREV and NEXT buttons.
Note: I am currently on the latest Storyline version April 14, 2026 (Build 3.115.36688.0). Are you using the most recent version as well? Please see the attached recording for a demonstration. If you have time, could you please record the steps taken on your end demonstrating the issue? Also, what is the current version of Storyline you are using?
