Screen Recording Resolution Issues
Hi CM101! I'm sorry you are dealing with this. I'm wondering if you've been able to determine whether this is a Storyline or an LMS issue.
Have you tried exporting your Storyline project as a video at the highest quality, and playing that on your local machine (not via LMS)?
-
- If the MP4 is sharp locally, the problem is likely the LMS or browser (scaling, player settings, or wrong zoom).
- If the MP4 is blurry locally, the problem seems to be in the recording/import/publish steps (size/scaling/compression).
So when I export the video from Storyline and play it on my PC as a MP4, yes, the video is blurry. When exporting the settings are at it highest as well. When I upload it to the LMS, the video is the same quality. By blurry, I mean it is very low quality. It's readable but definitely not 4k or in the very least not even 1080p.

CM101 I see, okay, to help you get to a solution here, I'm going to move this thread to our product forum. We have a team that moderates there.

Hi CM101,
Thanks for the additional details. Since the exported MP4 is already blurry before it even reaches the LMS, that tells us the issue is likely happening during the recording or project setup stage rather than in the LMS itself.
A few things are worth checking:
- Make sure your Storyline slide size matches the resolution you want to publish. For example, if your slide is set to something like 1280x720, your final MP4 cannot exceed that resolution, even if you recorded in a larger area. You can check this under Design > Slide Size.
- If your Windows display scaling is set above 100% (for example 125% or 150%), it can cause recordings to look soft when published. Recording at 100% scaling usually produces the sharpest results.
- If you record a small area and then scale it up in a larger slide size, that will reduce clarity. Try recording at the exact dimensions you plan to publish to avoid upscaling.
If you’re unsure whether your project setup is contributing to the issue, you’re welcome to open a support case and share your Storyline file so we can take a closer look at the recording and publishing settings. We’re happy to help you get this as sharp as possible.
