Slide Masters Always a Problem

Another Slide Master question: I am changing the focus order on slides, and I would like to make an Slide Master object - in this case, a Rectangle - inaccessible in the focus order. The rectangle does not appear on the timeline in Slide View, nor does it appear on the Slide Master. How do I remove that object from being announced by a screen reader?
