Start a Drag & Drop question with one or more objects already on a drop target

Hi all,

Does anyone know if it is possible to start a Drag & Drop with one or more objects already on a drop target.

If I do this manually and start the Drag & Drop question, the object that I placed on the drop target will not be detected.

When I drop another object on the same target, it will allow to place that object on top of the other object.  I set it to allow only one object on a target, so this should not be possible.

Regards,

Paul

  • Hi Paul,

Thanks for reaching out! There is currently no way of starting a drag-and-drop interaction with some drop items already on a drop target. Each drop item is assigned a drop target to be part of the interaction when the timeline starts.

I'd defer to the community if they encountered the same concern and came up with possible workarounds.

  • D & D does not consider the position of an object until the mouse grabs it. That includes dropping another item on it.

A couple of options you might try: Post instructions telling when and where to drag that item, as shown in slide 1 in the attached sample. A second option shown in slide 2. It appears to be what you are asking, but has a lot of issues. Adding more objects will require a lot of triggers, and it doesn't run the answer through the normal submit process. But who knows, it may give you some ideas.

      Thanks Walt,

This solved my problem for the most part I think.

I was able to use motion paths in combination with triggers to manually create a drag and drop exercise that already has an item dropped on the target, but I still need to test with multiple drop targets. I think that will require a new set of motion paths AND triggers for all drag items!

UPDATE: multiple targets also works. See attachments.

It would still be nice if Articulate could built-in some options for this, because the amount of motion paths and triggers is adding up!

      Regards,

      Paul
