Storyline 360 & Unity / Unreal Game Engines

Hi

Does anyone have any experience in working with Storyline 360 and the Unity or Unreal game engines? Are there any examples and resources you can point me to?

Hi David - did you ever get any responses to this? I'm working with a client who have developed something in unreal and want it on their LMS, long story short, LMS cannot host it as-is so I was wondering about embedding it in a SL file

    Hi Harri

No responses. Zero, zilch, nada. There doesn't appear to be an appetite. Or perhaps we are 'early adopters' and it is up to us?

  • What will work for sure is, embedding external content with a WebObject. In fact it will be running standalone in its own scope...so it will work. Communicating with it from Storyline is possible, but a bit more complicated.

Update: I've sent my IT guys to find a suitable hosting solution so I can try out they embed as web object option but so far they haven't found anything that is worth the cost/effort

For sure, I have been fooling around with incorporating a game in StoryLine 360 using the Godot Game engine for a while now and managed to get it to work and even send variables to Storyline. I have seen it done with several engines like GDevelop but I am sure Unity would work as well.

  • When developing something in Unity, Godot, GDevelop or any other professional game-editor... im wondering whats the value of adding it into Storyline ?

If it is only to work on a LMS, im quite sure there are Scorm, xApi or other solutions in the environment you are developing in.

I think the idea for many people is to be able to create a more sophisticated game that would be much too difficult to do in something like StoryLine 360 itself. Some people may want even a 3D environment that would only be possible with a webObject with an HTML game in it that can pass scores etc. to StoryLine.

And why use Storyline then ? Scores can be set in the game itself... if you can make a game in Unity or Unreal... i do think going back to Storyline is a bit bizarre.... i donot see the point of using Storyline as Unity as is is 2000% better especially on the multidevice thing and robustness...

oh my gosh thank you so much! I really appreciate it. The game the developer made is a 3D rendering of an offshore working environment and I believe it is so effective at demonstrating the hazards of the working environment, but right now it's just sitting on a server somewhere. Hopefully this will help us get it out to the learners and make it much more visible

Getting intrigued myself and gonna get some work done in Unity... as we have a mobile game that misbehaves badly on mobiles in Storyline. Gonna see if i can make that in Unity.
