Storyline 360 Resume Course Error
How big is the course, and what publishing standard are you using?
SCORM 1.2 has limited space for storing the suspend/resume data. If it runs out of space, it just resumes a course at that point. The solution to that is to use a standard with a higher limit, such as SCORM 2004. Here's more info: Storyline: Exceeding SCORM Suspend Data Limits
You can also check whether the course works in the SCORM CLOUD: How to Troubleshoot Your LMS with SCORM Cloud | Articulate - Community. If it works there, then the problem may be with the LMS/LRS.

The course is rather large. I will try this. However, it raises a question: I thought SCORM 1.2 was the more up to date standard and 2004 was legacy. Is that true? If so, will I be losing any other features that come with SCORM 1.2?

SCORM 2004 is more recent than SCORM 1.2. Also note that you need to publish SCORM 2004 with the 3rd or 4th edition to get the higher suspend/resume data limit (as shown in the article I linked to in the previous reply).
