Storyline File Assets Corrupted
Hi,
I tried to open a Storyline file today that I haven't worked on for about a week. It told me that that some of the assets are corrupted and that it was going to try to recover them. Well, that was a big mistake as it removed the audio files and closed captions from the slides. I can see how this would happen if I had imported the audio files, but these files and closed captions were generated using the AI tool within Storyline.
Is there a way to get those audio files back? I don't have the complete script that was used to generate these files as I had made some script updates in the AI audio tool after I listened to the audio it generated. (Yes, I know I should have copied the edits back into my script after I made the changes.)
Thanks,
Melanie

Did you save an earlier version of the .story file? I try to save with a new name at least once a day to avoid this very type of problem.
If you make a copy of your Storyline file and rename it to .zip, you can unzip it and see if the audio assets are still there, just with broken references.
If you have a recent SCORM file, you can unzip that and find all the audio files in it. You'll have to play them to identify them, the names are changed to gibberish as part of publication.Worse come to worst, take the course and make a high-audio-quality screen recording. Use Audacity or Audition to chop out the narration you need. (This won't work if you have background music, but you could still use it plus text-to-speech to create a current script.)

Thank you for the suggestions. I do not have an earlier version saved with a different name and I hadn't yet published a SCORM file as I was only halfway done with creating the module. :(
I am going to try to make a copy of the .story file and see if I can get the audio files that way. Luckily, I didn't save it after I saw that it had stripped out the audio files and just closed the file without saving.

I found a solution. Here's what worked for me in case anyone else has the same issue. I think this worked only because I used the TTS option in Storyline to create the original audio files.
- I copied the .story file and saved it as .zip.
- I could only find about half of the .mp3 files that were in the project.
- I uploaded the .zip file to ChatGPT to look for the other audio files in case they were hidden.
- ChatGPT was not able to find the .mp3 files, but it was able to extract the scripts that was used to generate the .mp3 files because those were still in there somewhere.
- I used those scripts to create new audio files using Storyline's TTS option.

Was the file saved in sharepoint or the cloud you can pull a previous version from there. It is always painful when you realise you should have had a back up, good luck sorting this out.

It was saved on my local drive, but I found a solution to recreate the audio.
