Storyline file saves when I close without my permission. I have AutoRecovery disabled. WHY!?

In the Storyline Options panel, I have AutoRecovery disabled. Yet, Storyline saves when I close the file without my permission. This is a huge problem. I need to be in control of when a file saves and when it doesn't.

Please advise. Thanks in advance.

The result is that a file is no longer 'Final'. I can't just open a file to reference it, click around turning off layers. Instead, the file has to be in perfect condition when I close it. The only other option is that I am constantly monitoring file versioning in DropBox.

I am no longer in control of when the file is saved or not and that is dangerous. This is going to add a lot of extra time to production.

I don't like it, not at all.

I just tested this in a local folder, outside of DropBox and it's still happening. For the last 4 years when I am working with a Storyline file that is synced to DropBox, I have had to pause syncing or else it throws me file naming conflicts at save time.

I noticed that it no longer asks me if I want to save when I close a file after making an edit.

  • Hi Megan,

Sorry to hear that you ran into this issue.

We generally recommend working locally when making changes to your project file as working on a network drive or a drive that gets synced to an online location has been known to causes file related issues.

I recommend doing the following troubleshooting steps to help address the behavior:

    • Open a new Storyline 360 project file and save this somewhere on your C: drive. You can user your Desktop folder for this.
    • Make some changes to the file and click on 'Close'. Are you able to see the prompt asking if you would like to save your project file?
    • If there is still no save prompt that appears after you attempt to close the the application, try doing a repair of your Storyline 360 installation
    • If the issue persists after doing a repair, open a case with our support team here for further assistance.

Thanks Joe, I am aware of that advice. I had tested outside of DropBox in my downloads folder before posting. It is still saving without my permission when I close. I will try the repair thing next. Thanks

Joe, I un/re-installed the program and tested a file on the desktop. It did ask if I wanted to save this time, I clicked 'Don't Save' and it saved anyway. I am 100% certain this is not a DropBox conflict. I will send a report ticket. Thanks

      Yes, that's what I meant when I typed 'un/re-installed the program' :D

  • Thanks for the update Megan!

Can I ask if you already have the latest available version of Storyline 360 installed?  Enhanced recovery capabilities were introduced in the February 21, 2023 update (Build 3.73.29831.0), but were rolled back in the March 21, 2023 released (Build 3.73.30119.0). See this link for more details:

You'll want to make sure that you're on the latest update which has the feature that automatically saves the project file disabled.

Good call on opening a support ticket, we'll continue working with you on this behavior there!
