Anybody have any idea why my slide would look like this in the slide view (which makes me think about changing backgrounds, changing font color, moving and resizing boxes, etc.) but it looks perfect in Preview?

Sorry to hear content from your Storyline slide appears jumbled while editing. That shouldn't be happening!
If you've confirmed that you are working locally, and a repair of your Storyline installation doesn't fix the issue, do you mind sharing a copy of the .story file for testing on our end? Feel free to upload it here in the discussion or privately through a support case.
We'll delete it from our system as soon as troubleshooting is complete!
