Text Pt size is different in storyline
I'm having an issue where the text size (in points) in Storyline does not match text size in other programs. I've attached a photo as an example (excuse the pixilation). The white text is 72pt according to Storyline, the black text is 72pt according to Adobe Illustrator, and the red text is 72pt according to Microsoft Word. I also tested it with Photoshop and Powerpoint for good measure. The storyline font is actually ~98pt font when compared to other programs.
I made sure that the slide size was set to a matching amount to the other documents (1920 x 1080). There might be another setting I'm missing but I'm not sure what it is.
Hi Mario, and welcome to the E-Learning Heroes Community! So happy you're here! 🥳
Thanks so much for reaching out! Sorry to hear you're running into this issue with font sizes importing differently from different platforms into Storyline 360. I understand your frustration!
I have a few questions in order to help understand your setup better:
- What version are you currently using? Our latest version is (Build 3.74.30180.0).
- What font style are you currently using when importing from other platforms?
- Are you currently working and saving locally? ( Working off a network or USB drive could cause unusual behavior.) If your file has not been on a local drive, you may want to try to resolve any issues by importing the existing .story file into a new Storyline project as described here.
I have tried replicating this behavior on my end. I'll attach my files to this thread so you can have a look.
Here's what I did:
-
- I created a slide in PowerPoint, making sure the slide size was the same as what you described.
- I then used Arial and Calibri fonts at 72pt size to see if font size behaved differently in different font styles.
- From there, I imported the PowerPoint slide into Storyline 360.
- After importing and double-checking, I'm currently seeing 72pt Font registering as the text size.
As an additional workaround, you will want to check that your computer is set to 96 DPI. This article will walk you through how to confirm and set your DPI setting.
Looking forward to hearing from you!

Hello everyone,
Has the suggested workaround been successful? Unfortunately, the relevant article is no longer available. We have been dealing with the same issue for years. I create screen designs in Illustrator and can only set the fonts using screenshots that I use as templates. We've noticed that the font size must be odd in order to match the screenshot from Illustrator.
When you set line and letter spacing and save them as a style, they do not carry over if you copy text from Word and paste it into Storyline. However, if you create a master slide and format a text box there with the style, it works, as long as you copy the text box created in the master slide.
I was quite disappointed to find that all the effort in defining the fonts and styles in the template was ultimately in vain. I had assumed that the styles in Articulate Storyline would function similarly to those in other Office applications.
I welcome any support or solutions regarding this issue.
Thank you!
GiuliaHi @GiulianaTrotta,
Thanks for reaching out!
I'm curious what your slide size is in Storyline. This can play a role in font sizes between different applications. Please see Elizabeth's reply here in a similar thread. I'll look out for your reply!
