Thinglink, Storyline and Moodle

Hello, we have built a course in Storyline using a lot of Thinglinks, adding them as a direct link to the image. In the Storyline preview, we can see them just fine. Once they are in Moodle, however, some work and some just show up as a "www.Thinglink.com refuses to connect." All the image settings in Thinglink are identical. I've contacted Thinglink and they have confirmed that from there end everything looks consistent and fine. Has anyone had an issue with Storyline being added into Moodle and links not working?

Thanks so much!

  • Hi Amanda,

Welcome to the E-Learning Heroes Community!

I'm sorry you're having this trouble with Thinglinks in your course; I'm here to help! We can start by ruling out an issue with the LMS. You can upload your published course at SCORM Cloud and compare the results with Moodle.

If the links work at SCORM Cloud, I recommend opening a support case with your LMS provider to troubleshoot the issue.

We'd be happy to investigate on our end if the behavior also happens in SCORM Cloud. Would you be willing to upload a copy of your Storyline project file here or in private by opening a support case so we can look at it? We'll delete it when we're done testing!

    I appreciate your patience!

  • Hello Eric, I'm so sorry. I didn't see this reply. I'm forwarding this to our LMS team to see if we can troubleshoot it. Will let you know.

  • Hi Amanda,

No worries! Let us know if your LMS team needs any information from us, and we'd be happy to assist.

  • Hi Amanda,

Good day! I'd like to explore another possible angle. Have you also tried embedding the Thinglinks as a web object in Storyline and seeing if it helps with how they show up in Moodle?

Let me know if you have questions using web objects!

  • There probably will be some warnings and messages in the browser console giving a hint why it is not working. Either a incorrect url or CORS issue blocking it.

  • Thanks so much everyone for your help. It turns out that there are two settings in Thinglink that can be used to link their content into Storyline, a "card" and a "slide". Even though they both work when viewed in Storyline, only the "card" setting was working once the course content was added to the LMS. The people adding them in were not consistent with the settings. We went through and updated everything and they all work!

I really appreciate all your help with this.

  • This is excellent news, Amanda! I sincerely appreciate you sharing how you resolved the issue using the "card" setting! I'm sure our community members using Thinglink in an LMS will find this information extremely useful.

Feel free to reach out to us again if you run into other issues; we're happy to help! Enjoy the rest of your day, and happy developing! 🙂
