  • Hi Jaipal,

Thanks for reaching out and letting us know what you are experiencing in your project.

I wish I had the magic wand to get this file for you, but as Matthew indicated, if it is corrupted, there's nothing we can do.

There may still be a working version of your project in your temp files. Here's how to check:

    1) Open this folder in Windows Explorer: %appdata%\Articulate\Storyline

    2) Scan the contents of this folder for a file that starts with the name of your project. If you find one, copy it to your desktop. If you find more than one, copy the latest version to your desktop.

    3) Change the file extension of the copy on your desktop from *.tmp to *.story.

    4) Double-click the file to open it in Storyline.

File corruption is unpredictable, and there's no straightforward way to determine what causes it. Common causes are environmental (disk errors, power outages, improper shutdowns), viruses, failed Windows updates, and even file size (i.e., very large files have a higher risk of corrupting). Consider using the preventative measures described in this article to protect your project files.

  • Hi Jaipal,

In our continued efforts to help prevent and recover from file corruption, we've added a new recovery feature to Storyline 360, build 3.29.19305.0. If a project becomes corrupt, Storyline lets you know if there's a working version in your temp files and makes it easy for you to recover. Details here.

Let us know how this feature is working for you and if you have any other questions on the latest update! You can reach out in E-Learning Heroes or connect with our Support Team

I tried to access my file and was informed it was being used by another process.  I searched articles and tried to copy and rename as suggested.  I now get this corrupt error when I try to open.  I also created a case - 0230311.

Okay I panicked a little.  I decided to revert to an earlier version on the course and that seems to do the trick.

Had the same problem. Seems to be a software issue. And a major one! New releases of Storyline doesn't support older files 100%. The file was made five months ago with 360. I tore my hair, trying to open 3 different backup versions before reverting to a Storyline version that was released five months ago.

  • Hello David and welcome to E-Learning Heroes. 😊

Thank you for sharing what you've experienced with your project files as well.

I took a look at the support case our team worked on with Julie and it looks like there was a network saving factor to consider that may have been causing the issue.

Be sure you're working on your local hard drive (typically your C: drive) when creating, editing, and publishing Storyline courses. Working on a network drive or a USB drive can cause erratic behavior, such as file corruption or an inability to save changes. See this article for more information and tips.

With your permission, I'd like you to share your project file with our support engineers to investigate what's happening in the latest version. You can share it privately by uploading it here. It will be deleted when troubleshooting is complete.

Another victim of file corruption here. Am getting particularly despondent with Articulate I must say, constant crashes and corruptions (counted 37 this past month).

To top it off, I'm now attempting to submit a ticket to see if my file can be 'de-corrupted', but am getting an 'Internet connection lost' message when trying to upload. My connection is fine everywhere else, can you advise if there's an alternative upload route?

  • Hello Matt, and welcome to E-Learning Heroes. 😊

I've opened a support case on your behalf and emailed you a direct link to upload the content.
