Timeline lagging when editing/viewing
Hello all. I have this issue in Storyline where the time line play head doesn't seem to align to the correct place in the time line when I play the slide from the timeline when editing, if that makes sense. I have had quite a bit of exposure to video editing with various packages and when editing you can play a section, adjust an asset and then move the playhead back again to re-play that section to ensure the assets are playing in the correct order or their time is correct, with no distortion in timing. It seems that when I do this though, the play head plays well ahead of what I am watching on the screen. It seems to get worse the longer I try to get it right. So when I re-adjust, it actually places things out even worse and it just seems to multiply. Something that should take 30 sec's is taking me hours.
I had SL1 intially and used a work computer and thought it was the RAM. I assessed it and it was fine. CPU, well it went to 100% when meeting with zoom effects, of which I have heaps in the slide/project. The project is a screen recording for using software. I now have another laptop and SL1 seemed to work ok but I just upgraded to SL2 thinking this would occur, but it does and now as bad as before. I have attached new computer specs that are similar to the previous computer.
I could have had this finished ages ago if I used seperate screen recording and then video editing software, but I want to get used to SL as I can see the benefits if it worked as it should. I'll find it hard for work to up spec machines in the current work climate and I wouldn't get this on the other software, so there must be a reason other than the machine. HELP...

Hello again Ashley.
Can you assist and advise if I can export the screen recordings I captured with SL into a video file, mp4 or whatever, and then I can re-import them as individual assets. I have tried to find an export feature to do this but can only find a publish option and this only publishes within a player.
No answers/solutions to the issue and I really can't afford to re-capture the recordings using Replay. I expect this is the easiest option if available, however it doesn't look like it...
Thanks.
Hi Shaun,
You can export out the screen recording as an MP4 as detailed here, and then you'd be able to import it in as an MP4 - but you won't be able to change it into a screen recording "try it" mode or similar once inserted as the MP4.
Hi Shaun,
First I wanted to remind you that replying via email includes your signature here, so you're welcome to edit the post to remove that if you'd like.
Using Replay will only produce an MP4, so you won't be able to implement any triggers, try it mode, etc. using Replay. Those features are only accessible if utilizing the screen recording feature within Storyline and then choosing to insert as a step by step mode.
If you export a screen recording conducted in Storyline out as an MP4, when you insert that into a new Storyline project or the same Storyline project, it'll just be standard video file so you won't be able to add any of the usual screen recording elements to it.

Hello Ashley. Thanks for the reminder, I replied via my email, not the forum. There's no edit feature there to remove the signature, so can you assist and have someone do it please. Probably because I replied via email - note to self...
Thanks, will see if I can resurrect this project in someway.
Hi Shaun,
There isn't an edit feature in the email - but if you visit this forum page you'll see the option to Reply-Edit-Delete-Quote and so on. We cannot edit your post for you - although I can delete it if you'd like me too.
Please feel free to let us know if you need anything else.

Hello Ashley. As mentioned, when I respond directly from my email then the option to edit or delete is not available to me or, I expect, anyone in the post. If you look at the bottom of this post as opposed to the one previous, you will see what I mean. Perhaps this is something that needs to be explored and rectified by your techies as it is a natural reaction to select the "reply" button in the email generated to me when there are responses to me from the post.
Anyway, please delete that post that has my signature block in it.
Thanks heaps.
Shaun Jackson
Hi Shaun,
Yes, there is no option to edit a post from the email response - you'd need to revisit the forum page to edit or delete your posts. I've gone ahead and deleted the post that included your signature.

Thanks Ashley for deleting the post. My comment is relating to the forum page. What I mean is that the editing/deleting options aren't available on the forum page if you respond from your email. When I look at the forum trail above, I can see the posts, like this one, that I submit from within the forum and all have the delete/edit function, but those that I responded to via my email don't provide me with the function from within the forum page.
Thanks Shaun for sharing that here - I only reply on the forum thread
itself, so I've never noticed the difference but this time I've replied via
email to see how it appears.
Hi Shaun,
So I came to look at this thread to see the difference, and I still have the options to edit or delete my own post - and this may be because I'm staff - but just wanted to see if you could show me a screenshot and then I can confirm with our team if this is by design or not?

Thanks Shaun for sharing that image here - and I've reached out to our web team to see if they can shed some light on if this is expected, a bug, etc. It's the first I've heard of it and have seen other users who I suspect replied via email (based on the presence of their signature in the reply) be able to edit their posts - so it's a good find if it's a bug!
