TIP: Ranking-Order Interaction

In an array of buttons, how do you ensure the user selects one in each row and one in each column?

The attached file demonstrates and explains one way to do that.

The first example is a standard slide that asks the user to rate items in their order of preference. It is not scored.

The second example is a similar slide converted to a Freeform Graded Question. It is scored.

The trick? Use an invisible layer to check the rows. Use another invisible layer to check the columns. Show a warning/invalid answer layer when the user hasn't selected one item in each row and column. Otherwise, finish the interaction.

You can see those slides in action here: Demo: Ranking-Order Interaction | Review 360

Either type of slide could include more rows and columns. For details, refer to the programming notes in off-slide text boxes in the .story file.
