Tracking the percentage of course completion - how?

I have the same question as Suvin but the answers here don't seem to be addressing it. Let me phrase it my way.
Is there a way to show the learner how far they have progressed in the course (% complete) when the course is running as a SCORM file in an LMS (e.g. Moodle)?
This is pretty standard stuff so it's surprising that there isn't a default setting for this and an easy-to-find control for toggling it on and off.
