Weird Code in Course

Hi,

This is a new one on me. I'm taking a safety course at my new job. The course was built in an older version of Storyline and I wanted to check how accessible it is. I right clicked on an to inspect it to see if the image had alt-text. When I was looking at the code I noticed some code I hadn't seen before including:

  • iframe allow= "join-ad-interest-group" data-tagging-id="AW-random string of nnumbers
  • an src= to a td.doublick.net address
  • and an iframe with a web-widget that had a allow="microphone *" aria-hidden="true"

Does anyone know why these would be here? I'm somewhat concerned about privacy and security.

I've included some screen shots.

  • Hi CaryGlenn1,

Happy to check this for you!

Aside from the advertisement-based "td.doubleclick.net" service, I also see "Google site verification" inside the elements. None of these services are included by Articulate 360 when publishing courses in the platform, so something else might have injected those elements into your course or the active window where your course was being viewed. If you're viewing your course on your LMS, please try using a different one to see if the same service appears. If it does, please open a case with our support team here so we can investigate where those came from.

If it's in the code level of your site, it’s most likely related to ad tracking, specifically a redirect link used by Google Ads (DoubleClick is part of Google's advertising infrastructure).

This kind of code is often automatically injected by the course hosting platform if they serve ads, use analytics, or embed third-party tracking for performance monitoring. It's not typically added manually, and it doesn't come from Storyline itself.

  • Thanks for the replies. The course is from a company and my organization pays for  course access.  I think the code may be part of their LMS. I’m not super happy that employees are being targeted by ads when the hosting company is already getting paid. I’ve let my manager know and I’ve contacted the company regarding the code and their privacy policy.
