Export to Word issues (SL360)

"Dear Santa, all I want for Christmas is..."

For big updates to old courses, I used to be able to export SL360 courses to Word, open them and color the fonts all to black and make sure to use a standard system font (otherwise the Notes section text didn't get included) and then drop the .docx file into Google Drive so my course owner and their team could collaborate and show me their edits. It was awesome! But... my company removed all Microsoft Office products from our tool chest, and now I can't "fix" my exported Word files!

If only the exported Word doc would retain the Notes, I wouldn't need Word at all, and could continue going directly to Google Docs!

Is there another way to export in a format that would accomplish the same? Can Articulate fix the Word export feature to include Notes no matter what font and color they are?

  • Hi FredGood!

Thank you for the feedback! I totally understand the wish-list sentiment!

Losing access to Word can definitely shake up your workflow when authoring in Storyline. Currently, Storyline only exports to Word for this type of text-based review. Also, the Notes field does still depend on using standard system fonts and colors to come through correctly. There isn't another export format that includes Notes in a way that Google Docs can immediately pick up without going through Word first, unfortunately.

I do see how a more reliable export that always includes Notes, regardless of formatting, can be a helpful improvement for a lot of Storyline authors. I've shared all of your insights directly with our product team. We'll be sure to notify you if we release a future enhancement that helps!

In the meantime, can you share a bit more about your review workflow and what an ideal export would look like for you? The more detail we can pass along, the better!

      Thanks Steven!

We used to get requests to have courses exported to Word, for our clients to mark up and send back. Then I started dropping my Word docs into Google and converting to Google Docs so we didn't have multiple saved files all over. This worked great and allowed for team collaboration! But now that we no longer have access to MS Office, it would be fantastic to be able to export a course to Google Docs (or even Google Slides). I know this is jut a dream, but.. I can dream, can't I? :D LOL Thanks
