New in Labs: Color Contrast Check in the Accessibility Checker
This post was updated on June 23, 2026 to note the updates mentioned in this comment.
The color contrast check is still in development and will receive updates as part of Labs. Functionality will change over time. Some options could be modified, while others may be removed based on feedback and feature stability.
The contrast check you’ve been doing in a browser tool? It’s now built into Storyline 360. The new color contrast check in the accessibility checker scans your entire project in one pass and flags every contrast issue, so you can address them without toggling between apps.
Automatically Check Color Contrast
To get started, enable the feature in Labs, then open the accessibility checker from the View tab on the ribbon or select Accessibility Issues in the status bar at the bottom of the app. You’ll see a new color contrast category in the All Issues list, labeled with the Labs icon, alongside your existing checks.
Review and Fix Issues
When the checker detects a contrast issue, it notes the affected object and displays a slide preview so you can see the problem in context. You can use the zoom controls to get a closer look. If multiple objects appear in the slide preview, you can check the Highlight object box to highlight the affected object.
For each issue, you’ll see:
- The measured contrast ratio
- The text and fill colors with color selectors for choosing different colors
- The font size with up/down arrows for adjusting it
- The pass/fail status for regular text (4.5:1 minimum) and large text (3:1 minimum) per WCAG 2.2 Level AA
You can update colors and font size directly in the checker. Once you’re done, click Apply to save your changes or click Skip to move past an issue without making any changes. You can also use the Previous Instance and Next Instance arrows to navigate between issues.
Color Contrast Check FAQs
What objects does the color contrast check scan?
The checker scans text boxes, interactive text objects, and their states.
Will the checker suggest replacement colors?
Not yet. The color contrast check identifies issues and shows you the text and fill colors involved, but it doesn’t suggest replacement colors. You can update the text and fill colors directly in the checker. We’re looking into automatic suggestions for future updates.
Will the color contrast check be available in Rise 360?
Not at this time, but Rise 360 includes built-in contrast support at both the theme and block levels. Use the theme contrast control to automatically apply contrast to course-wide elements such as headers and progress indicators. For individual blocks, block contrast settings ensure that text and graphics meet the 4.5:1 accessibility ratio when a custom background color is used. If you’d like to see a dedicated contrast check, let us know!

This is neat but how do I change the hover states for questions in a test all at once? That's the only contrast failure I have but now it's 88 items. More instructions would be helpful. I am using a custom text style for answer options already.
Hey MauraSullivan-9 - At the moment, there isn't a way to fix all instances of color contrast shown in the accessibility checker at once. It is something we are considering. I've also reached out to you via email. Thank you!

Hello, has this been disabled in Storyline? I have labs enabled and the color contrast checker toggled on but it is not showing up in the accessibility panel.
Hi CarolDungan-c47 - The Color Contrast check feature hasn't been disabled in Storyline. If you have the feature enabled via Labs, then the color contrast check will appear in the accessibility checker.

I don't see the survey link in the Accessibility Checker, could someone share a screenshot please? (I know I can also use the link above). I do have feedback that Colour contrast Level AA is being flagged for 'Bullet top'. This is where a text box appears to overlay a button, but they are in fact appearing at different points on the timeline and don't overlap at any point. There is a colour contrast issue, but should it be flagged where the two colours appear separately? Thanks.
Hi StefanPark - Please make sure you're on the latest version of Storyline 360, then you should be able to see the "Share feedback". Below is a screenshot I just took for you

Thank you. As Articulate 360 hadn't been updated, my Storyline 360 update couldn't be installed. I'm now on the latest versions and have the Share feedback option.
