New in Labs: Survey Block
Survey blocks are still in development and will receive updates as part of Labs. Functionality will change over time. Some options could be modified, while others may be removed based on feedback and feature stability.
Survey Blocks are a new, in-development feature in Rise 360 designed to help you collect actionable, anonymous feedback directly from your training. Unlike traditional quizzes or knowledge checks, Survey Blocks let you gather insights and opinions from learners in a flexible, user-friendly way.
Select from four options, quickly deploy your training, and then monitor responses—all from within Rise 360. Here's how it works.
Note: At this time, survey blocks are supported only in training published via Quick Share, but will be available for LMS export and other publishing methods in the future.
Add and Modify Survey Blocks
After you enable this experiment from the Labs section of your account profile, adding a survey block is easy. In a course or microlearning, open the block library, select Survey, and then choose Survey. That's it!
Survey blocks have four possible response types:
- Linear scale: rate using numbers on up to a 10-point scale (anonymous)
- Sentiment: positive, negative, or neutral feedback rating (anonymous)
- Short response: open-text field that allows responses up to 300 characters (anonymity based on Guestbook enablement)
- Long response: open-text field that allows responses up to 5,000 characters (anonymity based on Guestbook enablement)
No matter which survey type you choose, the same steps apply:
- Add an optional title to the block. This will help you find it in the engagement report.
- Enter or modify the question. If included, modify the sentiment labels as needed.
- Click Add Item to add additional questions for the current survey.
Survey blocks can contain as many responses as you'd like in whatever combination you like. You can also change the response type at any time.
Pro Tip: Survey response reporting combines the responses for every question in a single survey block. If you have multiple responses that you'd like to track individually, we recommend using multiple survey blocks.
View Survey Block Feedback
To see survey block responses, go to the Publish menu and click View Quick Share engagement, then select the Survey responses tab. Select a survey block title from the drop-down menu to see the aggregated responses.
Once a survey question has at least five responses, you can generate an AI summary of all responses to date.
Note: Generated summaries aren't persistent and must be regenerated whenever the response tab is reloaded.
Survey Blocks FAQ
Are there any accessibility, localization, or collaboration issues?
Survey block hasn't been tested for accessibility compliance and doesn't support localization at this time. Only collaborators with the feature enabled can modify survey blocks.
Do I have to use Quick Share to deploy training that contains survey blocks?
At this time, survey block feedback is supported only when training is distributed via Quick Share. We plan on adding support for additional publishing options in the future.
Is there a way to see who left feedback?
Linear scale and sentiment questions are always anonymous. When the Quick Share guestbook is enabled, short and long responses include the name provided by the learner.
What happens when I change a ratings response to a short or long response? Do I lose the responses?
When you change a survey question to a different response type, previous entries are preserved but not visible. To see previously entered responses, change the response type back to one of the text-entry response types or vice versa.
Share Your Feedback
We're excited about Survey Blocks, but need your help to ensure it meets the needs and expectations of all Articulate users. Your feedback will directly influence development, so consider sharing your thoughts on the following topics:
- Uses. How are you using survey blocks? Does the feature meet your needs?
- Bugs. Is anything not working as expected?
- Improvements. How could this feature be better?
- Insights. How does this feature benefit you and your learners?
You can enable and disable this feature from the Labs page in account settings. Share your thoughts in the Labs forum or by accessing the feedback form directly from within the feature.

This is a great addition to what is becoming a plethora of tools to engage learners and improve training. I think the obvious missing piece to Surveys is the ability to export the responses. I put generic feedback in my test cases and unsurprisingly received generic AI insights. I'm confident it will do a good job at summarizing larger real-world data sets. I see no issues with setting the minimum number of responses to 5 for AI insights.
Hi Frostworn,
Thanks for the feedback on how we can improve Survey Blocks in Rise! I've shared your request with ChristineYoon and her team, so it can be considered for future updates.

I realize this is a new feature - very welcomed, just to be clear. Are there any plans on the roadmap for LMS support to have my survey feedback data pulled from our LMS? We have more people looking at survey data versus the number of licenses we have on our team. What options might our team have if we have program managers pulling data to distribute to business partners monthly or weekly?

The article states: "Note: At this time, survey blocks are supported only in training published via Quick Share, but will be available for other publishing methods in the future." Like you, I hope that means LMS support is on the horizon.
Hey LindsayTrevino & SusanCCox8,
Thanks for sharing the type of functionality you'd like to see in Survey Blocks! I've relayed your feedback to our product team so they can keep it in mind for future updates.

Hello. I would like to know if it is possible to integrate the survey data into our LMS?
Hi shaianeneves,
Right now, Survey Blocks are only supported when distributed via Quick Share. However, we are tracking requests to introduce this feature to LMS publishing as well. I've included your voice so we can notify you as soon as we have updates to share!

Hi Steven.
Thank you! Sure, let me know if you have any updates.

So excited to see this new feature. Here are a few of the things I noted:
- The likert scale option only allows labels for the lowest and the highest numerical value. This means I wasn't able to add a "Prefer not to answer" option, because it wouldn't make sense to assign a numerical value to "Prefer not to answer" on the same scale from agree-to-disagree. The best I can do to replicate "Prefer not to answer" in this format is to make a question optional rather than required.
- The emoji option only allows for three faces, and we have to use ALL three faces. One is frowning, the other is kind of smiling and the other has a big smile. I like the look of the faces, but this seems pretty limited. For instance, with "How helpful was this course?" the options had to be simplified to "Very helpful, somewhat helpful, and not helpful." I could use the likert scale if we want more options, but again, only the top and bottom would have labels.
- Probably most problematic is there's no option for a simple multiple choice question in the survey. This means that questions that rely on 'Yes/No' or more detailed options (like which device do you use) aren't possible. Thank you!

I have put a survey in my module. If the company deploys the module on their LMS, is there a way for me to see the data to report it back to them?
Hi ReneYapp & CathyBruce,
Thanks for reaching out and sharing the feedback!
Currently, Survey Blocks are only supported when publishing to Quick Share. However, our product team is planning on adding support for LMS playback as well. We'll be sure to notify you if we release a future update that helps.

We are looking for a solution to building surveys in our Rise courses. This would be exactly what we need!
However, we need a way to get the real survey data from courses in an LMS. Our credentialing organization requires that we receive and review an evaluation from each person that takes the course. We can't use an AI aggregate.Hi CathyBruce,
Great to hear that Survey Blocks can add value for you and your team! We'll be sure to let you know as soon as LMS support is introduced.

Curious if there is a limitation to the number of responses that can be recorded. Is it relatively small, say less than 100, or could it be thousands, even tens of thousands?
Hi BrettRockwood,
Great question!
Currently, there is no hard limit on the volume of responses that can be collected by a Survey Block. Please let us know if you run into any setbacks moving forward.

Hi Articulate team,
Thank you for introducing the new feature👏. I really like the survey block. I wanted to mention that it would be helpful if survey responses could be tracked in the LMS, as currently I can only view them in Quick share engagement.
Hi RajuPemmadi-2c3,
Great to hear that you've been exploring Survey Blocks in Rise! We'll be sure to notify you when LMS support becomes available.
