Conflict Style and Triggers Quiz
This week’s challenge was the perfect excuse to experiment with one of Rise’s newest features — the HTML Code block. I wanted to see how far I could push it beyond the standard quiz and interaction options, so I built a Conflict Styles & Triggers Questionnaire as a fully self-contained HTML app and dropped it straight into a Rise lesson.
The Idea
I’ve used conflict style questionnaires in face-to-face training for years, but the process is usually manual, tallying scores, interpreting results, and then debriefing as a group. My goal was to digitise that experience in a way that learners could:
- Complete online within a Rise module
- Instantly see their results (dominant and backup conflict style)
- Explore their personal triggers and de-escalators
- Download or copy a summary to take into a workshop or coaching session
The Build
Using plain HTML, CSS, and JavaScript, I created a 25-item questionnaire with:
- Rating scales (1–5) for each item
- Auto-scoring into the five conflict style categories
- Dynamic results display with score bars, style descriptions, and personalised tips
- Trigger/de-escalator mapping that highlights “hot buttons” and calming strategies
- Save and restore progress (via local storage) so learners can pick up where they left off
Why I Love the HTML Block
- Freedom to customise — I’m not limited to Rise’s built-in blocks
- Blended learning ready — learners can complete it online before a workshop
- Reusable — the same block can slot into different courses with minimal tweaks
- All in one place — no need to send learners off to external survey tools
