Edit Course in Separate Window While Previewing
Idea:
Provide the ability to continue editing a Storyline project in one window while previewing the course in another.
Current limitation:
When previewing, the main Storyline interface is locked, preventing any edits until the preview is closed. This becomes a major issue for larger courses—some projects can be 300–400 slides long.
If an error is spotted during preview, you must:
- Close the preview
- Navigate back to the relevant slide
- Make the correction
- Re-render the entire preview again
This repetitive process significantly slows development and interrupts workflow.
Suggested improvement:
Allow preview to open in a separate, independent window while keeping the editing environment active. This would enable authors to:
- Make real-time adjustments while previewing
- Fix issues immediately without restarting preview
- Work more efficiently on large and complex courses
Use case:
While testing triggers, animations, variables, or navigation across a long course, authors can instantly correct issues without breaking their testing flow.
Benefit:
- Saves significant time on large projects
- Eliminates repetitive preview cycles
- Improves productivity and user experience for developers

Hello MeeraLynn-UK,
Thanks for sharing your insight with us! We understand that you'd like the ability to keep editing your Storyline project while a preview runs in a separate window. This would let you make adjustments in real time, quickly fix issues with triggers, animations, variables, or navigation, and continue testing without restarting the preview process.
We've shared this feedback with our product team so they understand how this would be valuable to your workflow. We'll share any updates in this thread, so all are in the loop!
Thanks for helping make Storyline 360 even better!
