Feature Request: OLED Black Mode (True Black Theme)
Hello team,
Around seven years ago, a feature request was submitted for Dark Mode support.
https://community.articulate.com/discussions/discuss/dark-mode/788387
Since then, display technology has evolved significantly, and OLED screens have become increasingly common on both laptops and external monitors.
For this reason, I would like to propose not just a traditional Dark Mode, but an additional OLED Black Mode (True Black Theme).
While dark gray interfaces are an improvement over bright themes, they do not fully benefit from OLED technology. On OLED displays, pure black pixels are turned off completely, providing several advantages:
- Reduced eye strain during extended use.
- Improved comfort when working in low-light environments.
- Higher perceived contrast.
- Lower power consumption on OLED devices.
As a frequent Storyline developer, I often work for long periods and regularly set my screen brightness to the minimum level to reduce eye fatigue. A true black interface would make a noticeable difference compared to the current bright interface, and would offer a more comfortable experience for users working long hours.
Suggested implementation
Rather than introducing a single Dark Mode, consider offering three appearance options:
- Light Mode (current)
- Dark Mode (dark gray)
- OLED Black Mode (true black)
This approach would allow users to choose the experience that best fits their environment, accessibility preferences, and display technology.
With OLED displays becoming increasingly common, it may be worth revisiting the original request and considering whether a modern theme strategy could better serve today's users.
Thank you for your consideration.
