Interactive Video Quiz : Create an ergonomic workspace at home
This demo offers a solution to some questions: how to run a quiz WHILE watching a video? How to allow learners to review ONLY the video sequences relating to incorrect answers, WITHOUT having to split the video file into several sequences?
The learner's experience follows these steps:
- At the end of the 3 sections or chapters of the video (corresponding to the cue points in the timeline), a question appears in a lightbox. The learner must answer it but does not receive any feedback at first.
- On the results slide, they see their score. Using the “Review my answers” button, they can see which answers were correct and which were incorrect.
- They can then redo the questions they answered incorrectly. Only the video sequences corresponding to the questions with incorrect answers will be replayed.
- Once they have passed the quiz, they can navigate freely through the video using the menu or the forward/back buttons that appear above the video.
Some technical points:
- The video is part of the VYOND templates available to licensees (translated into French for using in my training courses). I found it very useful to be able to create GIF images in VYOND (for characters or the cat) that I used on feedback layers or the results slide. It's a simple trick that improves the transition between animated sequences and static slides. For example, I had fun creating an “interaction” between the cat and the submit button, where the cat rubbing against the button would make it wobble (made with an emphasis animation that loops).
- To prevent users from closing a lightbox without answering a question, I used a JavaScript shared by NRZ Malik on his blog: https://eblog.nrzmalik.com/how-to-hide-the-storyline-player-lightbox-close-button/#h-step-2-create-a-javascript-trigger
Many thanks to Malik ! His Javascript removes the lightbox close button. It must be triggered on the slide master used by the question slides.
- The hot-spot placed above the video allow to synchronize the slide timeline with the video timeline using a trigger that toggles pausing and playing (see the attached story file).
- Repositioning on the different chapters of the video is managed by TRUE/FALSE variables indicating whether a question has been answered correctly or not (see the attached story file).
- If you want to test the menu for navigate the video without having to watch it all (it lasts 1 minute and 45 seconds), in the Triggers panel, activate the trigger that adjust the QuizReussi variable to TRUE. In this case, moving from the menu to a chapter beyond the first will display the question from the previous chapter.
Et voilà ! By the way, I hope you learn some French :)
