Storyline Survey Capabilities - Please Help

Aug 24, 2012

I have a few questions regarding the survey capabilities. I was hoping someone could help. Below are my questions:

  1. Can you attach documents to the survey?
  2. Is there a notes section where the participants can make comments to elaborate on why they answered a questions a certain way?
  3. Can participants view their own results?
  4. Can you generate reports for the survey to obtain statistics?
  5. Is there a scheduling tool to schedule calendar dates?
  6. Can you add plug-ins into the tool to enhance its capability?
  7. Can you select specific questions to be part of the data reporting and some questions that are not part of the data reporting?

Welcome to Heroes, C

Have you had a chance to review our awesome tutorials, particularly the ones on using quiz and survey slides? I think that would be a great place to start. There's so much you can do with Storyline, that it's really just a matter of learning how to harness all the power. You can use essay-type questions for elaborate user responses, feedback and result slides, and even our own LMS, Articulate Online, to track all kinds of user data and reports. Have a look around, and let us know if you need any help getting started on a course :)

I haven't tried to address all of your requirements/questions yet, but I am working on an Online Orientation for students and we needed to survey them for feedback, as a way to track usage, and as a way to track who completed the module. I found a quick way was to create a Google Form with the survey questions, which included them entering their name/ID for tracking. Data is collected separately because we don't need to use the data within the orientation module itself. Very quick web object add.

For a more interactive section you could setup variables and use JavaScript to read/export the data collected. I haven't played with Storyline at that level as of yet, but I see that in the future.

Good luck.

Sure thing, C! I'll try to run through each question...

1) Here's how to attach resources to your Storyline course:

http://community.articulate.com/tutorials/products/attaching-resources-to-the-player.aspx

2) Here's how to add and edit data entry fields in Storyline:

http://community.articulate.com/tutorials/products/adding-data-entry-fields.aspx

3) In Storyline, result slides allow you to easily communicate to your users about how they performed on any combination of quiz questions you've included in your course. You can report on all questions or, if you prefer, just a subset of questions.

Storyline also allows you to use multiple result slides in the same course (although only one result slide can be tracked in Articulate Online or another LMS). You can even combine scores from multiple result slides to create a final result slide with a consolidated score.

Here's how to add result slides in Storyline:

4) Storyline is designed primarily as an elearning development tool to be used in conjunction with Articulate Online or your own Learning Management System (LMS).

For the best results and most accurate reporting, we recommend using Articulate Online:

You can sign up for a 30-day free trial of Articulate Online here:

Any SCORM-compliant or AICC-compliant LMS will also provide accurate tracking capabilities. Here are some open-source LMS options that may meet your tracking needs:

*  Dokeos:  http://campus.dokeos.com/

*  eFront:  http://www.efrontlearning.net/open-source

*  Moodle:  http://moodle.org/

5) Not at this time, but that would be a great feature request

6) There may be third-party "widgets" and coding available, but this is not supported by Articulate.

7) Yep :) See: result slides

Hope that helps!
