Welcome to the final round of our four-week e-learning game challenge!

You’ve done the heavy lifting—mapped out your design concepts, built your working prototypes, and taken in all that feedback. Now, it’s time to come on down and show off your final game example.

This week, your challenge is to share an e-learning game inspired by popular TV quiz shows.

    Very impressive, Jody! Love the clever profile descriptions. But I know what you mean about scope-- I had to get rid of a category in my project as well. I also had a lot of audio clips since I did unique feedback for both correct and incorrect answers. Could've saved myself a lot of time if I just duplicated the host's responses, but that wouldn't have been as fun :)

      The first version I saw was already excellent, Jodi. Thanks for the subtitles: I had a feeling I was missing your doses of humor.
      I can imagine the enormous amount of writing to complete just Kim's journey, but it's great. At least I'll have seen one of these shows in my life, otherwise I'd a thousand times rather shun this kind of game show! Oh la la!

      I linked to my final version and the Week 1 concept. I also loaded my original flow chart. Thank you for all the kind words you provided along the way.

      Here is my post mortem on this challenge:

      1. There's that old saying, "My eyes were bigger than my stomach". I intended to do three rounds of dates, but could only finish one. The scripting and generating the audio took a lot longer than I expected. I have the scripts for Zara and Dr. Dave so perhaps before the end of the year I can finish them off.
      2. I have about 70 individual pieces of audio in this demo. I didn't do a good job of naming the audio clips before I loaded them, so if I ever had to pass this file off it would be hard for someone to untangle.
      3. I really liked using the AI voices from Artlist, but I didn't see a place to download the caption files. I had to type in all the captions myself. I used the notes panel which helped, but it would have been easier to import them. I liked "Tony's" voice the most and loved the way he pronounced "Peter" and "Pinot Noir". I think these are the best AI voices I've used so far.
      4. I used AI to help convert my hedge fund compliance questions and answers into the style of the 1970s Dating Game show. I was impressed that AI could capture the cringy nature of the answers.
      5. I don't think the background audio control is working as planned. I have it set to reduce the volume of the music by 80% when the characters are speaking, but it doesn't feel like the music volume is reduced enough.
      6. I didn't accomplish my objective of making this keyboard friendly. I started, and then lost steam on it.
      7. I hate the song "Spanish Flea" and the color pink now.
      8. I regret not working in a question about merkins in the workplace. I was saving that for Zara, the HR Director. :)

        Hi Jodi. Regarding your fifth point, problem with the background audio control not working as planned... It may be - I say it may be - that if you want to “set to reduce music volume by 80% when characters are speaking”, you need to enter “20” in the audio control panel (i.e. you keep 20% of the volume, and therefore reduce by 80%), not 80. This may be your mistake. Burn this message if I'm wrong.

    Now, I totally get that it might have felt a bit slow or drawn out for some of you, but honestly, I think anyone who’s been following along or checking out your examples is going to find this super helpful.

    Here is the Final Version of Smooth Operator.

    Based on suggestions from the Project Club (https://mygldc.com/posts/project-club-e-learning-heroes-weekly-challenge) I have included a bonus round with scenarios that a front desk receptionist/swithchboard operator might encounter. I also track the volume of calls and call accuracy. And you can print a certificate.

    The game puts the learner in a Game Show environment where they try to direct calls to the proper extension. Accomodations are made for people with various needs including removing distractions, naration, hiding the clock, and more.

    The members of the GLDC reminded me that we shouldn't just have a game for entertainment's sake, it should serve a business purpose.

    This game could, in about 5 minutes, determine an employees attention to detail and observation skills (either listening and typing or viewing in closed captions and typing a response).

    For those with different vision abilities, you could still collect call volume and accuracy scores and make determinations based on people who are simularly situated.

    The ability to print a certificate, provides a record of achievement and also a benchmark for future attemps.

    Not a lot of edits. I had to fix a bit of a bug on the teleporter. Added in a new teleport effect and sound. Oh, I fixed a glitch in the lift where it flickered. Otherwise all done.

    This is 99% pure storyline work. I have a couple of javascript triggers: one controls the keyboard navigation so it works from slide to slide, and the other is the typing animation when you enter the room. Both could be removed, and it wouldn't negatively affect the game.

    I built this before the challenge. However, I loved taking the challenge over four weeks; it has a much more real-world feel. However, I wonder if you got any drop-off of people who didn't start one and then felt excluded for the next three weeks.

    Had to change the core mechanic script multiple times due to glitches, and the same script was copied and pasted 3 times in different triggers because I cannot re-call existing functions. I have run several tests before the release, but if you notice anything irregular when delivering the drink, please let me know.

    Lesson learned:
    Create a timer; Dom manipulation; Clean the data and compare objects (JavaScript).
    Use triggers and variables to manipulate elements among slides layers (Articulate).

      I can see the enormous amount of writing and attention to detail, David. It's a very-very big demo, fascinating and a little scary (especially for the musical part: I lost all my points. It's a little easier for the art, and downright impossible with the photos, in my opinion. And what about the rest of you?) How can we trust what we hear and see when we're so easily mystified by AI? Nevertheless, it's a great success.

        Thanks for going through it! Yeah, I find the music AI to be really hard to distinguish. My wife says she can tell from the lack of depth of breathing in the voice, but she used to be a singer :). I did think the photographic images would be easier when I started rendering these, but even with just a single pass and no scaling, they look pretty realistic. As long as there aren't hands we can count the number of fingers on, the photographic images of objects are indeed tougher to pick up on.

        Thanks for taking a look! Images, music, voice and sound effects were all AI generated. Of course I had to supervise :)
